De lange races worden steeds populairder. Het is wel de langste wedstrijd in Italië ooit, maar niet in Europa zoals de organisatie claimt.
UltraMilano-Sanremo is a 175 miles footrace and arguably the longest -one stage- point to point single stage race in Europe.
History will be made on March 29th & 30th, 2014.
The UMS175 course is quite diverse and offers a stunning variety of some of the most fascinating Italian landscapes. The route can be easily divided into three main parts, geographically completely different from one to another.
The first part is a very flat and fast part of the course. It crosses the Po Valley winding between the city of Milan (where the race begins) right through centers of great historical and cultural importance such as Pavia and Ovada.
The second part presents the first climb. Up Mt. Turchino. This is, without a doubt, the most challenging part of the course but perhaps the most striking and fascinating. This is what could be considered the night section, with the crossing of the Appennines. The breathtaking views of the Valleys opening up to the vivid blue water of the Mediterranean Sea will accompany our runners to the fast descent towards Genoa, through windy mountain roads and expected low temperatures. Once the coast line has been reached the famous Via Aurelia will carry all runners West, towards France.
The third and final part encompasses the compendium of all possible sceneries. From the flats of Pianura Padana, to the Appennines Mountains rising above the city of Genoa and finally the rugged coastline of the Ligurian Sea. A set of gorgeous hidden bays and miles of sandy beaches, typical of the Riviera Ligure, will host the last and final stretch of this incredible challenge!
With only 14 miles to go our runners will then abandon the Via Aurelia and enter the bike path alongside the beach which will take them all the way to the finish line. The scenery is absolutely spectacular. The towns of San Lorenzo, Santo Stefano, Riva Ligure and Arma di Taggia will cheer on our runners before they finally reach Sanremo where our organization will offer the perfect background for a triumphant finish in a festive atmosphere!
The beautiful route links the cities of Milan and Sanremo, in the footsteps of the 105th Edition of the Milano-Sanremo, the Super ďSpring ClassicĒ bicycle race.
The First Edition of the UltraMilano-Sanremo is a competitive foot race, organized in collaboration with Sanremo Runners (www.sanremorunners.it) and the Keep On Going ONLUS charity.
