During the "Ronde van Aruba", you can run around a real country in a race over 75 Km. In 2004 the run will be held in the night from the 7th to 8th may. Aruba has within the Dutch Kingdom a "status apart" and is a melting pot of different people from all over the world. Beside the native language "Papiamento" most people speak English, Dutch or Spanish. Aruba is an excellent destination for an exiting ultra running competion in combination with a perfect holiday on a tropical island. This Ultra race is a real challenge even for experienced runners. The start is a midnight and the route will lead the participants along all the different aspects of our beautiful island. San Nicolas, the former capital of this little island where the oil refinery dominates the view, the rough north coast, sandy and rocky with unexpected white sand dunes. The California lighthouse marking one end of the island as sign for the athletes to turn around back to the finish, the high and low rise hotels along the famous beaches and trough the capital Oranjestad, passing the colorful boulevard.
This all in the warm tropical night with the wind blowing from East to South like it does almost the whole year.
For people from the Island the race mostly done as an relay team. 4 or 2 runners taking each their part of this ultra run. They change at designated checkpoints. When they're not running they are sitting in the vehicle that's supporting their team. This 4x4 provides the runners light in the darkness and also the supply's that are needed. For international participants there is only the full ultra distance of 75 Kilometers. You are running between those relay teams. A headlight must give you sight on the rocky surface. There are water points every 5 Km and there is a possibility to leave a small bag with supply's for the 20, 40 and 60 Km Check point.
We like to welcome athletes from different countries at the start of the "Ronde van Aruba"
