{"id":643,"date":"2001-07-07T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2001-07-07T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/?p=639"},"modified":"2001-07-07T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2001-07-07T00:00:00","slug":"639","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ultraned.org\/?p=643","title":{"rendered":"La Trans Gaule (FRA)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[English Version below]<\/p>\n<p>Futurs Transegaulois, bonjour !<\/p>\n<p>Nous rentrons de dix jours de reconnaissance sur le parcours de LA TRANSE GAULE (au Raid Gauloises, ils disent la &#8216;reco&#8217;) pendant laquelle nous avons eu tout le loisir d&#8217;admirer la splendeur printani\u00e8re de la campagne. N&#8217;ayons pas peur des mots, c&#8217;est un parcours DE REVE \u00e0 travers la France que nous vous proposons !<br \/>\nNous avons presque envie de parler de vacances de r\u00eave pour ceux qui vont y prendre part mais, bon, \u00e0 raison de 60 KM par jour, le terme de &#8221;vacances&#8221; pourra para\u00eetre exag\u00e9r\u00e9.<br \/>\nLe parcours d\u00e9finitif est arr\u00eat\u00e9 \u00e0 1145 kilom\u00e8tres, entre le Phare du Port de ROSCOFF et NARBONNE-Plage o\u00f9 vous finirez sur le sable, tout au bout de l&#8217;Avenue de la M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e. Nous avons apport\u00e9 de l\u00e9g\u00e8res modifications au parcours initialement annonc\u00e9. La 4\u00e8me \u00e9tape aboutira \u00e0 CHATEAUBRIANT (au lieu de LOUISFERT), au pied de son ch\u00e2teau, et la 5\u00e8me \u00e9tape repartira du m\u00eame endroit. Dans la 11\u00e8me \u00e9tape un petit crochet vous permettra de longer le Lac de VASSIVIERE sur quelques kilom\u00e8tres. La plus longue \u00e9tape sera la 2\u00e8me entre HUELGOAT et PONTIVY (78 KM. A\u00efe !.) et la plus courte la 11\u00e8me entre BOURGANEUF et PEYRELEVADE (49 KM) entre la Creuse et la Corr\u00e8ze. Les seules agglom\u00e9rations de moyenne importance que vous aurez \u00e0 traverser seront CHATELLERAULT, AURILLAC, RODEZ et NARBONNE. Nous avons \u00e0 chaque fois, au m\u00e9pris des sens interdits et au p\u00e9ril de notre permis de conduire, recherch\u00e9 la route la plus directe, la plus simple et autant que possible \u00e0 l&#8217;\u00e9cart du trafic automobile pour traverser ces villes. Pour le reste, nous vous assurons de magnifiques et tranquilles routes bucoliques en bordure de for\u00eats et en pleine campagne, o\u00f9 les troupeaux de vaches Limousines ou Salers seront les spectateurs privil\u00e9gi\u00e9s de vos exploits.<br \/>\nVous franchirez la Loire, la Vienne, les Gorges de la Dordogne et du Lot, le Tarn ou encore l&#8217;Aveyron ainsi que le Canal du Midi. Vous arpenterez le Plateau de Millevaches, croiserez les chemins de St-Jacques-de-Compostelle et visiterez ce v\u00e9ritable joyau qu&#8217;est le village de CONQUES perch\u00e9 au dessus de la Vall\u00e9e du Dourdou. Vous traverserez les Parcs Naturels d&#8217;Armorique et du Haut-Languedoc et verrez se dessiner sur l&#8217;horizon les Volcans d&#8217;Auvergne. Vous traverserez entre autres vignobles, ceux des C\u00f4teaux du Layon au bord de la Loire (vin blanc en entr\u00e9e) et ceux de la Clape le dernier jour (vin rouge en dessert). Vous grimperez jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 1004 m\u00e8tres d&#8217;altitude, pas un m\u00e8tre de plus, avant de plonger vers la M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e. Et puis aussi, puisque ce monde n&#8217;est d\u00e9cid\u00e9ment jamais parfait, au total 40 km de Route Nationale \u00e0 grosse circulation dont un petit morceau d&#8217;enfer, \u00e0 savoir une terrible ligne droite de 30 km (RN147) o\u00f9 vous affronterez le souffle chaud des poids lourds entre DOUE-LA-FONTAINE et LOUDUN (\u00e9tape 7).<br \/>\nAu cours de notre reco nous avons rendu visite aux dix-huit mairies des villes-\u00e9tapes o\u00f9 nous avons le plus souvent re\u00e7u un excellent accueil. L&#8217;h\u00e9bergement sera assur\u00e9 comme promis \u00e0 toutes les \u00e9tapes dans des gymnases ou des salles des f\u00eates. Douches et sanitaires seront mis \u00e0 notre disposition mais vous devrez vous \u00e9quiper de mat\u00e9riel de camping (tapis de sol, sac de couchage, toiles de tentes si vous souhaitez vous isoler). Pour les amateurs de camping, la plupart de ces communes en poss\u00e8dent un ou plusieurs. Et ceux qui voudraient s&#8217;offrir un bon lit trouveront m\u00eame des h\u00f4tels sans probl\u00e8mes de r\u00e9servation \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque. Certaines municipalit\u00e9s nous ont promis un pot d&#8217;accueil, peut-\u00eatre plus. Par une heureuse co\u00efncidence, l&#8217;un des responsables de l&#8217;animation estivale de la station baln\u00e9aire de NARBONNE-Plage est un f\u00e9ru de course \u00e0 pied puisqu&#8217;il a couru la Grande Travers\u00e9e de la R\u00e9union et les Templiers. Celui-ci est tout acquis \u00e0 notre cause et on ne pouvait r\u00eaver meilleur correspondant pour pr\u00e9parer l&#8217;arriv\u00e9e de la derni\u00e8re \u00e9tape qui devrait \u00eatre digne de cette Premi\u00e8re.<br \/>\nAfin de favoriser \u00abl&#8217;esprit de corps\u00bb tout en laissant \u00e0 chacun, coureur ou accompagnateur, le loisir de se changer les id\u00e9es apr\u00e8s les longues journ\u00e9es, nous vous proposerons un d\u00eener en commun toutes les deux \u00e9tapes et avons n\u00e9goci\u00e9 des repas avec des traiteurs ou des restaurateurs locaux. Ces repas seront offerts aux coureurs et propos\u00e9s \u00e0 prix co\u00fbtant aux accompagnateurs (60 Francs maxi). Ces repas seront propos\u00e9s aux \u00e9tapes impaires tandis qu&#8217;aux \u00e9tapes paires, vous trouverez des restaurants ou des \u00e9piceries pour vous ravitailler dans la ville-\u00e9tape ou \u00e0 proximit\u00e9.<br \/>\nApr\u00e8s l&#8217;exp\u00e9rience de cette reconnaissance de 2500 kilom\u00e8tres en voiture (aller ET retour) il nous appara\u00eet important de souligner le r\u00f4le important et la lourde t\u00e2che des accompagnateurs qui passeront pr\u00e8s de dix heures par jour au volant, \u00e0 router, ravitailler, encourager ou parfois freiner leur coureur. Seul dans un v\u00e9hicule, dix-huit jours \u00e7a va \u00eatre tr\u00e8s long alors qu&#8217;\u00e0 deux personnes par v\u00e9hicule, \u00e7a passera probablement beaucoup mieux, laissant la possibilit\u00e9 de courir, de p\u00e9daler ou m\u00eame de batifoler dans la nature. Pensez-y, choisissez bien votre \u00e9quipe et ne sous-estimez pas son r\u00f4le : il serait regrettable que des accompagnateurs abandonnent leur coureur en route.<br \/>\nNous avons \u00e9galement rencontr\u00e9 les responsables du magazine VO2 MARATHON qui nous rendront plusieurs fois visite sur le parcours et r\u00e9aliseront un reportage complet sur ce qui va devenir la plus longue course en ligne d&#8217;Europe.<br \/>\nA ce jour, nous comptons toujours dix inscrits et quelques ind\u00e9cis et en esp\u00e9rons toujours une quinzaine. Allez, encore un petit effort ! A ceux d&#8217;entre vous qui h\u00e9sitent, un seul conseil : soyez parmi les d\u00e9fricheurs et les pionniers, vous ne le regretterez pas. A ceux qui penseraient participer l&#8217;an prochain, disons-le tout net : mauvais calcul !<br \/>\nLA TRANSE GAULE ne sera organis\u00e9e, au mieux, que tous les deux ans. Il ne vous reste donc plus qu&#8217;\u00e0 persuader au plus vite votre patron de vous accorder vos cong\u00e9s du 30 ao\u00fbt au 16 septembre. Bonne chance !<\/p>\n<p>Bonne pr\u00e9paration estivale \u00e0 tous.<\/p>\n<p>=======================================================<\/p>\n<p>Dear Transe Gaule challengers, bonjour!<\/p>\n<p>We have been &#8220;On the road&#8221; 10 days measuring the course, checking every crossroad, making the full road-book. Being sure nobody will get lost. This job let us plenty of time to enjoy the wonderful scenery you will discover with running. The course we mapped out is a kind of running masterpiece, something unique. A dream which came true. You will really be in wonderland, but not only for sightseeing. OK you&#8217;ll have to run 60K a day, so speaking of &#8221;vacations&#8221; would be an exaggeration.<\/p>\n<p>The race will be 1145 Kilometres (712 miles) between the start located at the lighthouse of ROSCOFF and the finish on the sand of the NARBONNE beach located at the terminus of the Avenue de la M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e. The longest stage will be the second one between both Brittany cities of HUELGOAT and PONTIVY (78K &#8211; 48.5 miles). The shortest will be the 11th stage between the two little towns of BOURGANEUF and PEYRELEVADE (49K &#8211; 30.5 miles ) in the centre of France. We will only cross 5 medium size cities. Every time in these cities, despite the driving-code and its rules we took the most direct, the most logical way trying to avoid traffic. So, except these spots you will run on small, quiet, typical roads through the French countryside which is full of fields where healthy cows will stop eating to look at you with serenity as a meditation&#8217;s gadget. And forests well stocked with game, smelly flowers, singing birds, colourful mushrooms, maybe White Snow and the Seven Dwarfs. We would like you to pay attention to the following point: the French diversity is unique. During this odyssey in a small country you will see plenty of different areas with a contrast of landscapes, a contrast of vegetation too. And in a architectural point of view you will be amazed. Especially with the village of CONQUES which is a treasury of the Roman Age where pilgrims gather before going to Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle (as we say in French language, this place looks like &#8220;the cherry on the cake&#8221;). Of course French wine production areas will be in the program, like white wine of C\u00f4teaux du Layon or red wine of La Clape. The highest point is at an altitude of 1004 meters (3000 feet &#8211; No oxygen needed). But obviously nothing is perfect on Earth: altogether 45 K on highways and a terrible 30 K straight line (first half of 7th stage) hampered with trucks (just look at your shoes and pray for yourself!).<br \/>\nEverywhere we stopped we received a warm welcome. We found an agreement about free accommodation in the 18 cities where the stages will finish. It means something basic in dormitories or gymnasium, but showers are available every time. Don&#8217;t forget a survival kit for this experience: mattress, sleeping bag, towels&#8230; For those who would like more privacy pitting tents is possible too. Hotel rooms at your own expenses are available most of the time and at the beginning of September booking is not necessary. Sometime, cities will offer a small buffet with food and drinks. Somewhere it&#8217;s written it was time to hold this race. Because in Narbonne-Plage (last stage) at random we met the fellow in charge of leisure and he is a runner, even a fan of ultrarunning. Now ready to do his best for the Transe Gaule. He has some plans for a celebration after the race, because you will deserve it. We would like you to know we consider ultrarunning as a mind&#8217;s game and we would like to create a kind of friendly atmosphere where everybody could feel comfortable. That&#8217;s why we decided to offer a diner to runners every two days (at a low rate for handlers). The other day you will have the choice to eat in local restaurants or to buy food. Also, the Nestl\u00e9 company (courtesy of one of the entrants working for it) will provide us some food. We also met the director of French main running magazine VO2 MARATHON who will come to visit us at different points to make a full report about what will become the longest race in Europe.<br \/>\nOne last important thing we want to say after having driven 2500 kilometres these last days (from Roscoff to Narbonne AND way back), being a handler will not be that easy. It means spending 10 hours a day sit in a car, cheering a runner, preparing drinks and food, taking care of the navigation. 18 days in a row! So two handlers seems easier because they can run or ride or sleep from time to time. It&#8217;s up to you. At the day of today 10 runners entered the race, a few others hesitating .and 15 still would be better! If you are still hesitating, consider the fact that running the Transe Gaule 2001 will make you a pioneer. Trust us !<\/p>\n<p>So keep on training, guys ! A bient\u00f4t.
