“RUN, EAT, DRINK, REPEAT”.
That’s kind of the concept of Le Dernier Homme Debout. “Run, eat, drink and go again”.
A concept that allows everyone to push their limits and experience the effort of (very) long distance. An extraordinary atmosphere, collective emulation and a race format that pushes everyone much further than they had imagined.
In 2018, 279 runners took on this new concept. 18 hours and 131 kilometers later, only one remained, Eric Brossard, who will forever remain the first Last Man Standing.
In 2019, 375 runners took the start of the 2nd edition. Only one remained at 7 a.m. the next day, Paul Meurisse. After 20 hours of racing, 146 kilometers and 5720D+.
In 2021, 209 starters and a record: three runners in the last lap, three finishers but only one winner. Matthieu Tharion who completed 175 kilometers and 6840D+ in 24 hours and who won again in 2022 in a crazy last lap, facing 4 valiant opponents.
In 2023, it was Jean Blancheteau, a reference in the DHD format, who proved to be the most resilient and tamed the 24 loops at the end of a cold and soggy night. Apocalyptic conditions that made the course even more demanding.
In the women’s race, Séverine Vandermeulen came in first, winning once again by setting a new women’s record in the format by completing 15 loops in time
In 2024, in once again apocalyptic conditions (and beyond our control, even if it makes us laugh) and on extremely slippery terrain (not to say completely broken up), it was Yohan Nezan (also winner in Vendée) who was the last to manage to tame the elements by winning at the end of the 18th lap and an extremely selective race.
This year, on an unchanged course, 300 brave souls will set off again into battle to try to complete this merciless loop that no one has yet managed to master in two rounds of the clock.
Each loop is 7 km 380 and 286D+
The maximum time allowed for a loop is 60 minutes
Any rider who has not crossed the line after 60 minutes is eliminated.
Each loop starts on the hour. Example: a runner who finishes a loop in 45 minutes will only be allowed to start the next one on the hour that follows (not before). He will therefore have to wait in the neutral refreshment zone. Once the hour has passed, the runner is free to start the next loop whenever he wishes.
Assistance (in the refueling zone) is authorized from the start of the 8 p.m. loop.
Assistance (on the course) is authorized from the start of the 8 p.m. loop.
The use of poles is authorized from 4 p.m. (at the start of the 5th loop)
To be declared the winner, a runner must complete a final loop alone (in less than 60 minutes)
If after 23:00 (and 23 laps) several riders are still in the race, the one who crosses the finish line of the 24th lap first will be declared the winner. In the event of a hand-in-hand finish, no one will be declared Last Man or Last Lady Standing.
