Op 22-23 mei zou het WK 24 uur worden georganiseerd in het Roemeense Timisoara. Daar werd eerder een geslaagd EK 24 uur georganiseerd. Vanwege de ontwikkelingen rond het Corona virus is besloten om het WK 24 uur te verplaatsen naar 2-3 oktober. Het ligt in de lijn der verwachting dat in oktober zo’n WK wel kan worden georganiseerd. De organisatie wijkt mogelijk uit van Timisoara naar de hoofdstad Boekarest omdat daar meer ruimte is op en rond het parcours en omdat Boekarest beter bereikbaar is.
Voor de NL ploeg zijn de kwalificatie-eisen voor dit WK een afstand van mannen/vrouwen >210/190 km gelopen in de periode 2019 tot en met 2 mei 2021.

2021 IAU 24 hours World Championship postponed to October
The 2021 IAU 24 hours World Championship originally scheduled for May 22nd – 23rd has been postponed to October 2nd – 3rd by joint agreement with the LOC.
The decision to delay the event has been made with the safety of the athletes and spectators in mind as well as to make sure that the participants from all regions have a fair chance to take part in the World Championship. We are limited to alternate dates due to existing IAU calendar and the ever evolving situation with COVID-19.
As of now, there are restrictions on travel inside and to/from Europe. In addition public activities are limited in Romania and this brings additional complexity to the preparation for the LOC. There will be a separate announcement about the IAU Congress which would have been held in May at the 24H World Championships.
Please note that LOC is also considering changing the venue of the Championship to Bucharest, due to limitations in the course in Timisoara and more choice for direct travel for federations.
We will come back with a specific details and further information when there is a clear view of the development.
