SpiderNet Pafos Marathon, Half Marathon & 10 km
SpiderNet Pafos Marathon ( http://www.spidernetpafosmarathon.com ) is an event that has grown bigger and better over the years (630 finishers in 2001 race) and it is now recognized as the major road race in Cyprus. Pafos Marathon attracts runners from more than 20 different countries. The event which will be held on Sunday 2nd March 2003 incorporates three different distances: Marathon, Half Marathon and the 10 km Road Race. All finishers will receive a souvenir T-shirt and a specially commissioned commemorative race medal. Marathon event finishers will also receive an exclusive Race Certificate. Trophies will be awarded in 50 different group categories and for the first three teams over all in the Marathon distance.
There will be many activities and a whole programme of entertainment at the race start and finish site, which is suitable for the whole family. The start and finish areas for the Half Marathon & 10 km races are located at the Pafos Mediaeval Fort square nearby the world famous Pafos fishing harbour. The Marathon will start from Petra tou Romiou (Birthplace of Aphrodite goddess of love and beauty) and finish at the Pafos Mediaeval Fort square. Runners will be transferred (free of charge) by buses to the start of the Marathon race (Petra tou Romiou) from the Pafos Mediaeval Fort near Pafos Harbour.
The Greek name, Petra tou Romiou “The Rock of the Greek” is associated with the legendary frontier-guard of Byzantine times Digenis Akritas, who kept the marauding Saracens at bay with amazing strength. It is said that he heaved this large rock into the sea destroying the enemy’s ship.
The social activity programme includes a Live Pasta Dinner on the evening before the race day, which will be host at the Paphos Gardens Hotel (host hotel of the event). Create your own Pasta speciality with the Chef (tickets are available at CY £7,50). Paphos Gardens Hotel is situated 1,5 kms away from the Pafos Mediaeval Fort square. On race day the entertainment activity programme will include the Pafos Municipality Band who will perform a full musical programme, a dancing group who will perform both Greek / Cypriot folk dance and invite participants / spectators to join in. A “bouncy” castle, which will be fully supervised, is also being provided for small children.
All participating runners will be offered free of charge Carlsberg beer (Cyprus brewed), ample quantities of the 100% ENA orange fruit juice and AGROS, (EU approved) Natural Mineral Water. Ample quantities of seasonal fruit (bananas and oranges) will be offered free of charge to all participating runners after the race. Hotdogs, hamburgers and kebabs will be also available at very reasonable prices.

Carlsberg Tsada Village Run – 4th March 2003
The unique event “7,5 km Tsada village run” will be held on Tuesday 4th March 2003. Attractions prior to and after the event include children’s fun run, wine tasting, folklore dancing performed by the children of the village school. More than 150 foreign runners participated in the fun event this year and enjoyed the warm atmospshere created at the finish line by the village people. The course is magnificent and incredibly well organised and supported. After the completion of the running event all participants are given the opportunity to sample local dishes prepared by village families. All finishers will receive a bottle of local wine as a commemorative memento.
