Today the age group world bests were published (again) on the Dutch website UltraNed.org
Amongst them the 12 hours best for 40 years old males: 160.934 km by Derek Kay.
. Derek Kay is not from the USA, but from the Republic of South Africa: RSA.
He moved to South Africa from London when he was 12 years old.
The race was indeed run in Durban, but again not USA but RSA.
The date of the race was 6th/7th October 1972.
The race was a 100 mile race, the ‘Milk Hundred’,
(hence the distance of 160.934km) which he finished in 11.56.56: a new world record! But….. as far as my information goes, Derek Kay was only 36 years old at that time!
