Moravian UltraMarathon 2001 (CZE)

The 10th edition of the Moravian UltraMarathon (MUM) stage run, held from July 1 to July 7 2001.

The total distance of 303 km was covered in 7 days – every stage 43 km, the last one 45 km . We run on various surface (trails, asphalt forest paths and small paved roads). There were a great altitude differences in every stage and weather was rainy in the first stage and hot in the last one. The race centrum was situated in the Moravian village Sloup, surrounded by impressive countryside with deep forests, large underground caverns and abysses, and deep rocky valleys. All the stages finished in Sloup. The prerace and postrace facilities were always certain in one place and optional for us (showers, indoor swimming pool, massage – 3 massuers, kitchen and dining room for runners). In previous editions of MUMs we had to move many times from one place to the other. Most competitors prefered this new management, which we propose also for the next year (June 30 / July 6, 2002). Only several romantic people would prefer the traditional nomad way of MUM. We had our own physician – orthopedic surgeon. All runners were very kind to the Polish research team from the Sport Institute from Katowice – we propose to present a part of their results immediately after evaluation.
We didn´t live there only by running and healing our bodies but we had an opportunity to see a lot of interesting places. We have visited interesting undeground caverns, we also have run alongside the most famous Czech abyss Macocha. We could enjoy the interesting Czech history in castles in Boskovice and Lysice, and The Jewish old town of Boskovice. We had an excursion in Brewery
erná Hora. After the 2-nd stage there were opportunity of dancing party, but the prize for attenders were more suffering in next stage.
