Voor geïnteresseerden in allerlei aspecten van de voeding bij het ultralopen kan het de moeite lonen om al een dag eerder naar de RUN Winschoten af te reizen want op vrijdagochtend houdt de IAU in het Atletendorp Pagedal in Stadskanaal een mini-symposium getiteld “Nutrition and its role in Ultrarunning”. Hieronder de lijst met sprekers en onderwerpen. De lezingen vinden al vroeg plaats: van 09:00 tot 11:00

{b}“Nutrition and its Role in Ultrarunning”: A Medical Conference by the International Association of Ultrarunners{eb}
The International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) is organizing a Medical Conference at the 100km World and European Championships in Winschoten, the Netherlands.
The conference, titled “Nutrition and its role in Ultrarunning”, will take place on September 9th at 9am in the Athlete’s Village (Pagedal Stadskanaal). The Speakers that will be presenting during the morning have medical backgrounds with an interest in ultrarunning.
Speakers (in order of presentations):
Mr. Peter Res: Effects of nutrition and exercise on protein metabolism extending into the realm of ultrarunning.
Dr. Andrew Bosch: Carbohydrate and protein as an aid to endurance performance and improved recovery
Dr. Ann Heaslett: The Female Athlete Triad: Amenorrhea, Disordered Eating and Stress Fractures/Osteoporosis
Dr. Arthur Brule: Food contamination and the effects on human
Dr. Lion Caldwell: The science of supplements, amino acids to zinc, performance enhancers or wishful thinking
The topics are of immense interest to understanding the medical side of ultrarunning and it will provide valuable insight into the sport.
