Spartathlon 2001 (GRE)

Results of the Greece classical race. Updated 2/10.

With Valmir Nuñes, the Spartathlon has again a winner with fame. Nuñes was already two times winner of the 100K Wold Challenge, at Del Passatore (Italy) and Winschoten (Netherlands). His Personal Best on 100K is 6:16′. From previous results from Brazil and Italy we know that he can perform very good in hot conditions and mountain like courses. With his fast winning time in this Spartathlon edition he is a name to remember if we have a World Challenge 24 hours in future.

From BeNeLux we have finishers: Jaap Swart (NED), Alain Ponchelet (BEL) and Louis Emringer (LUX). As far as I know, Louis Emringer is the first Luxembourg runner ever finishing the Spartathlon.

192 atheletes started the race from which 82 finished within the time limit of 36 hours.
