Tot veler verrassing startte Yiannis Kouros afgelopen weekend in de 24 uur van Wörschach in Oostenrijk en legde daar 250.612 km af. Zie voor de uitslag de site van Wörschach http://www.24stundenlauf.at/
Nummer twee werd de Oekrainer Andriy Solodovnikov met 226.315 km en de beste vrouw werd de Oostenrijkse Ilse Sandberger met 204.236 km.
De 20e editie van Wörschach is niet volgend jaar maar pas in juli 2009; de organisatie wil een ‘sabbatical’ om dan het jaar daarop groots uit te pakken in verband met het jubileum.
Op de site Planet Ultramarathon http://planetultramarathon.wordpress.com/ kwam gisteren het bericht dat het nu onwaarschijnlijk lijkt dat Yiannis Kouros komend weekend ook nog in Drummondville van start gaat. Zijn deelname aan de 24 uur van Wörschach in Oostenrijk was een uiting van zijn ongenoegen over o.a. de manier waarop de IAU zijn naam gebruikte in de publiciteit voor de World Challenge 24 hrs in Canada.

About a week ago the IAU announced that Yiannis Kouros would be competing at the IAU 24hr in Canada.
In the last few days I have found out and have reason to believe that Yiannis is unhappy with the IAU for being used as a “publicity machine” for the IAU’s 24hr and he is also unhappy with the IAU’s lack of direction and push in a lot of areas.
Surprise, surprise. Who is leading the 24hr in Austria this weekend?
I dont think Yiannis has ever done two 24hr races two weekends in a row. I will be very surprised if he is in the starting lineup at Canada!
