Beste,

Vriendelijke groeten,

Press Release {b}‘Defining Moment’{eb}, a Lateral Vision Productions Feature Documentary

Blood, sweat and tears is a cliché often heard in terms of sporting achievement, but there is no doubt that it speaks clearly of John O’ Regan, ultra marathon man. From the opening frame of Defining Moment which tells of the historical run of Phedippides at the battle of Marathon you are hooked. John recreates the 246km run in the blistering heat of Greece at the Spartathon. His aim, to finish in less than 36 hours.

John is an ordinary man doing extraordinary things. From his humble effort of being a non-runner who decided to run the 2001 Dublin marathon, John takes us on a journey through his trials and tribulations to become one of the top extreme sports men of the world.
Director, Producer Martin Mc Cann’s gritty production completely captures the raw attitude of O’Regan’s crusade. It is a story of man’s ability to overcome, to define himself by what he does, to surmount any adversity in life. At times humorous, heart-warming and extraordinary you sense the heat and feel the passion and will him on during his race.

Run, walk, run walk, it is one man’s determination to claw his way over the end line and to make sure DNF (Did Not Finish) doesn’t appear beside his name. His ultra marathon equals ultra preparation as we see all the tiny details, including having his own nutrition bags at each checkpoint that make this endurance race not only physical but psychological.
Mc Cann intimately follows the races of O’Regan from the sands of the desert to the freezing poles, a documentary years in the making and allows us to see intimate preparations for what most humans would never attempt.
It is a lonely life that of the long distance runner, but O Regan’s dedication and determination shines through in what is one of the defining moments in documenting ultra marathon running, one of the toughest sports in the world.
